Things We Take for Granted

Power went out last night and the neighborhood was completely dark aside from passing vehicles and people’s flashlights. Sometimes we just don’t recognize the importance of something until it is gone.

Even though it was in an urban area, it was no difference than if we were up in the mountains and surviving with only my belongings and knowledge. It is only then I felt how unprepared and unskilled I was if this outage was to continue, say more than a couple of days *cough* earthquake *cough* fire *cough* mother nature decided to test us.

Fortunately, power came back not long after and we were able to park our car back inside the garage and hop back online to tell the world how scary it was without lights and power for two hours.

Perhaps this is a sign for me to educate myself with survival and camping skills so in case I do need to live in the mountains, I won’t freeze to death.

Oh yea, next time you encounter utilities crew, thank them for their service. They are truly the ones who keep the lights on for ya.
